Community Access

The Wasaga Beach Public Library is able to provide free access to the Internet for patrons, visitors and the general public. Funding from the Government of Canada's Community Access Program (CAP) enables the library to connect electronically to ideas, information and commentary from around the world.

The Community Access Program or CAP is an initiative of Industry Canada. CAP gives Canadians in rural and remote communities access to the Information Highway and the potential it offers for job creation, research, general information and community economic development. The goal of the program is to develop a network of community access sites all across Canada. These sites can be found in public libraries, museums, recreational centres, municipal offices, visitor information centres, etc, a CAP poster will identify sites.

Community Access sites work with various members of the community to increase their understanding of information technology, particularly the Internet, and to help them acquire the skills they need to use this technology.

The Community Access Program is a Government of Canada initiative, administered by Industry Canada. With the combined efforts of the federal, provincial and territorial governments, community groups, social agencies, libraries, schools, volunteer groups and the business community, CAP helps Canadians take advantage of emerging opportunities in the new global knowledge-based economy.

For more information about the CAP program check out the official web site.
